Vibrant, talented, enthusiastic, understanding, soft all this quality comprises the great icon of the Indian Bengali Films director none other than Rituporno Ghosh .He was a man of tremendous energy and had a unique way to see and present things. The legendry man was born on 31st august 1963.
In 1992 his debut film Hirer Angti released .In 1994 his film Unishe april released which won national film award for best feature film. Ghosh’s first Hindi movie was raincoat in the year 2004. Ghosh was satyajit ray’s fan and he inspired other filmmakers like mithaq kazimi who adopted ghosh film raincoat in English. In his career he won 12 national and many international awards.
Ghosh was considered as a ray of light in the Indian Bengali cinema. He took the Bengali cinema to a new level .He lead his life in his own terms .In 1990; rituparno ghosh got his first break in documentary film.
Ghosh was talented and intelligent auteur, be it in the arena of direction, scriptwriting or acting he is just so perfect .Whatever the movies he directed like hirer angli, unisher april ,dahan ,utsab, raincoat ,last lear ,chitrangada, naukadubi, abohoman all were spellbound and awesome movies that carried message. Most of his movies fetched awards .Rituporno made his first screen appearance on an oriya film. In 2011 he acted in Bengali films arekti premer golpo .He even hosted two celebrity chat shows in two leading Bengali channels i.e ebong rituporno on etv bangla and ghosh and co on star jalsha. He was the editor of the Bengal film magazine “anandalok” from 1997 to 2004.He was also an editor of robbar magazine of sangbad protidin 2006 till his death 2013. Ghosh was a researcher and an admirer of rabindranath tagore .He made three films directly based on literary works of rabindranath tagore’s- Choker bali, naukadubi and chintrangada. Ghosh also made a documentary based on Tagore’s autobiography.
Before his demise he had just finished production work on his last film “satyanweshi”. He took his last breathe on 30th may 2013.
His sudden death was a huge loss to the entire film industry as well as his fans and his family members. But no doubt he will be always remembered by the people through his marvellous work that he gave us which can never erase him from the heart of his fans.
