Online shopping is a form of electronic commerce which allows consumers to directly buy goods or services from a seller over the internet using web browser. Whereas traditional shopping is an activity where customers visit different shopping centres in order to purchase different goods.


English entrepreneur Michael Aldrich invented online shopping in 1979.During 1980s he designed manufactured sold, maintained many online shopping systems using videotext.

In ancient Greece, the agora served as a market place where merchants kept shop to sell their goods. Market places dating back to the middle Ages expanded as shopping centres such as the New Exchange, opened in 1609 by Robert Cecil in the Strand.
